Grapes

Grape (vitis vinifera), a genus of vitaceae, is a fruit that comes from the Mediterranean region, Central Europe and Southwestern Asia. This fruit is almost spherical shape with a blackish red color. It has sweet and sour taste and contains a lot of water.

The grape is eaten fresh, processed to make wine, or dried to produce raisins. Sometimes it is also consumed as a juice or mixed salad.

Grapes are rich in antioxidants because it contains vitamin C and A. Grapes also contain calcium, iodine, manganese, potassium, zinc, selenium, and natural sugars like dextrose and glucose.

Antioxidants are widely used in dietary supplements and have been investigated for the prevention of diseases such as cancer, coronary heart disease, and even altitude sickness.

Manganese of the grapes is able to maintain stable blood sugar.

Grapes also contain melatonin. Melatonin forms part of the system that regulates the sleep-wake cycle by chemically causing drowsiness and lowering the body temperature. So, the insomniacs can expect to consume grapes to treat sleep problems.

Potassium and melatonin in grapes are useful for controlling blood pressure while the fiber is able to clean up the blood vessels from the fat.

Red grape is touted to prevent coronary heart disease because it contains phenolic compounds which has powerful antioxidant properties. Resveratrol in red and black grapes in particular has the potential to reduce the risk of coronary heart. The content of saponins can inhibit the absorption of cholesterol in the blood.

The content of vitamin C in grapes is good for collagen formation and healthy gums, increase endurance and speed wound healing. Sugar content is a source of instant energy. Moreover, grapes are also believed to be an aphrodisiac. Boron content in grapes can also prevent osteoporosis.

You need to be considered to select the grapes still tight. Grapes should be stored in the refrigerator to remain crispness and taste intact. Grapes should be washed thoroughly to reduce the levels of pesticide residues.
